deviantART Presentation

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 14, 2009, 1:55 AM

In November I will be putting on a presentation at uni - focusing upon the use of the self-portrait in current social contexts (considering the impact of new technologies and its use or purpose on the internet).

Every student on my course has to do presentation this year, detailing any theoretical and social contexts that should appear to support ones practice. As deviantART makes up a big part of my approach to the self-portrait (or deviantID) I would really like to consider something different - beyond a formal and standard powerpoint - for my presentation?

I had thought of booking out one of the computer labs at uni, inviting guests to come in and sign on to the computers so they can look through dA whilst I perhaps talk about and refer to it and the subject of self-portraiture?

Does anyone have any other ideas - perhaps better than that or ways in which I could adapt or improve it? I would be most grateful to hear them if anyone does?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Interesting. Hmm.. I'm always bad at coming up with ways of presenting things. Maybe you could google it? I'm sure there have been plenty of books written about presentations so why shouldn't some of that information be online. Hehe. I think you could include some statistics about people's opinions. Since it is about people and portraits, I don't think it would be a very nice thing to use portraits and put them up on a huge screen and talk about it since they are actual people. Hehe. Even though this could have made it a little easier :P Hmm... I'm sorry I couldnt give you any ideas!

this might be a rubbish idea, and ultimately might not work al all if people said they'd participate and then.. flaked at the last minute, but you could get a group of willing individuals to submit a new dev ID, leave a personal comment about their submission in the description that your audience can read or not read (whatever they choose) and under the description can have your presentation notes, underneath that can be a link to the next persons devID.deviation (whatever). It'd be a totally different take on BORING powerpoint *yawn*, you can do the entire presentation via deviant art! Hey, even if you couldn't find many people to participate, you could just link back and forth to different deviations from two or 3 different people.

Anyway, I'll be up for helping in any way, I hope the above actually makes sense?! :)

thats really cool and could work well - I was thinking something upon similar lines...

I thought that maybe I could set up a new account here on dA (like you said) and upload numerous self-portraits contributed by both friends here on dA and people on the course...

A week before I would put my presentation text/notes/video up online - here dA or linked via youtube and encourage feedback and discussion to develop with everyone, not just members of the course...

By the time it gets to the date of my actual presentation, my presentation would have already been done, if you see what I mean... and what took place in the computer suite would effectively turn out to be an online response to it and its content...

Im still thinking it over though - still looking for something that could work and be equally effective?!

Im at the Oxmarket this Saturday - morning... looking at more ways to show photography and film; if you are about at all, feel free to pop in?!
